A major emergency response was triggered in Swansea city centre this afternoon after a serious collision at a busy retail park left two people trapped.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Emergency services raced to the Parc Tawe North Retail Park shortly after 2pm on Friday, December 19. The incident involved two private vehicles in the car park area. South Wales Police, the Welsh Ambulance Service, and the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service all attended the scene following reports of the crash.
Photographs from the location showed a significant cordon in place near the Deichmann and Home Bargains stores. The area was blocked off by police vehicles, ambulances, and a fire engine as paramedics and firefighters worked to treat those involved.
Casualties Extricated Using Specialist Equipment
A spokesman for the fire service confirmed that crews from Swansea Central and Swansea West Fire Stations were mobilised. Firefighters used e-draulic rescue equipment to carefully release two casualties who were trapped in the vehicles. The multi-agency operation was coordinated to ensure the injured received urgent medical attention.
Adding to the scale of the response, the Wales Air Ambulance was also deployed. Its crew from Dafen arrived at the scene by air at 2.27pm to provide advanced critical care. Their involvement concluded at approximately 2.50pm.
Swift Response and Scene Clearance
Witnesses reported seeing the air ambulance land after numerous police cars and first responders had already arrived. The fire service stated that their crews were in attendance for just over half an hour, leaving the scene at 2.45pm.
The collision resulted in one of the cars crashing into the front of the Deichmann store. The full circumstances of the incident are likely to be investigated by police. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the condition of the two casualties.
