Tragic Driveway Accident Claims Life of Two-Year-Old Boy in Florida

A two-year-old boy has died in a heartbreaking driveway accident in Florida, prompting his grieving parents to issue a vital safety warning to all drivers. Little Olyver "Ollie" Couch was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by a family friend who was leaving the home, unaware the toddler was playing behind the car.

Parents Issue Heartbreaking Safety Plea After Loss

Ollie's mother, Paula Couch, spoke to network WCJB with an urgent message for drivers everywhere. "I just want people to be aware of what's behind your vehicle," she said. "Just look, even if you think you already looked, just look again, get out and check, just check the wheel wells, check all of it, because they may be already crouched down playing, pay attention, just check."

Ollie's father, Michael, echoed this sentiment in an interview with Fox35, stating: "Everybody just needs to pay attention. Walk behind your car. Look. It don't matter how many times it takes."

Community Rallies Around Devastated Family

The tragedy occurred in Marion County, Florida, where Ollie was the youngest of four brothers aged 4, 7, and 12. Family friend Alecia Thomas described Paula as a devoted mother, saying: "She lives for her kids, they're her everything, she's the best mom, she provides for them, she works her butt off for those kids. I can't even describe the pain she's going through."

Paula added that Ollie, who had just celebrated his second birthday in January, "will forever be two."

GoFundMe Campaign Supports Grieving Family

A GoFundMe campaign was organized by Ayla Pritchard to help the family with immediate financial burdens. "Our hearts are completely broken as we share the tragic and sudden loss of sweet little Olyver," Pritchard wrote. "Olyver was involved in a heartbreaking accident at home and, despite every effort made to save him, he passed away this afternoon."

The campaign description continues: "His mother, Paula, is one of our own - a devoted, hardworking mum and the primary provider for her family. She is the kind of person who shows up for everyone else, always putting her children first and working tirelessly to give them a safe and loving life. Now she is facing the unimaginable loss: the loss of her baby boy while still needing to be strong for her three other sons."

As of Friday morning, the fundraiser had collected approximately $5,455 (around £4,013) in donations toward a $7,000 (£5,140) goal. The funds are intended to cover funeral expenses, household bills, and allow Paula time away from work to grieve and support her remaining children.

This devastating incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of thorough vehicle safety checks, especially in residential areas where children may be playing unseen. The Couch family's warning emphasizes that even a moment of extra caution could prevent similar tragedies.
