A three-year-old British girl has died after being found floating face-down in a swimming pool at a rented villa in Pollensa, northern Majorca. The incident occurred around 8pm on Wednesday, and despite resuscitation efforts at the scene and hospital care, she passed away the following afternoon at Son Espases University Hospital in Palma.
Details of the Incident
The child's parents pulled her from the water before police and paramedics arrived and administered CPR. She was admitted to hospital with a very weak pulse and remained in a very serious condition overnight. A Civil Guard spokesman confirmed: “The child rushed to hospital on Wednesday evening sadly died in hospital yesterday afternoon around 3.30pm.” A source added: “She was British.” The Civil Guard is investigating the incident.
Fourth Tragedy in Just Over a Week
This is the fourth fatal pool incident involving a British child in Spain in just over a week. On June 15, a one-year-old British toddler was found floating in a hotel pool in Lajares, Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands. She was resuscitated and airlifted to hospital but died on Wednesday due to irreversible neurological damage. Sebastian Quintana, president of maritime safety organisation Canarias 1500 Km de Costa, said: “With deep sorrow, we send our condolences to his parents and the entire family. I would like to take this opportunity to remind mothers and fathers of the need to constantly watch over little children and get into the water with them.”
Last Saturday, a four-year-old British girl drowned in a hotel pool in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, despite emergency efforts. And on June 17, a three-year-old British boy died after falling into a pool at a holiday farmhouse in Periana, near Malaga. Periana Council expressed condolences, stating: “Today is a deeply sad day for our town. There are no words that can ease such immense grief.”
Ongoing Investigations
The Civil Guard is investigating all incidents, coordinated by local courts. Authorities urge parents to maintain constant supervision of children near water.
