Liverpool FC star Cody Gakpo's girlfriend, Noa van der Bij, has announced that their baby has passed away during pregnancy. The news comes just weeks after the couple initially revealed they were expecting their second child together.
Heartbreaking Announcement
Gakpo and Noa, who have been together for several years, welcomed their first child, Samuël Seth, in 2024 and recently shared their excitement about becoming a family of four. Announcing the pregnancy on May 30, they wrote in a joint message: 'Our little family is growing. We can’t wait to meet you.'
Today (June 27), Noa shared the heartbreaking news that their baby boy had died during pregnancy. The couple planned to call their child Elijah Raphael Gakpo. She said: 'With broken hearts, we share the devastating news that our baby boy passed away during pregnancy. Thank you for your love and support. Elijah Raphael Gakpo. Forever loved. Forever our son.'
A Beautiful Sign
After Noa learned the news about Elijah, she went to a church to light a candle in his memory. She then went to a park with Samuël where she was given a heavenly sign that Elijah was still with her. In a separate message shared online, Noa added: 'We went to church to light a candle. Afterward, we walked to the church playground with our son Samuel. There was only one other child there. His name was Elijah. There could not have been a more beautiful sign from God. He reminded us that our little boy is never far away.'
No Public Statement from Gakpo
Cody is yet to issue a public message on the miscarriage. Noa works for a modelling agency and regularly shares updates from her personal life on social media. Gakpo joined Liverpool in January 2023 from PSV Eindhoven for around £40m and has been a regular in the starting XI in his time on Merseyside. He is currently playing for the Netherlands at the World Cup.
