Fenham Dad Anthony Harrison Sentenced for Harassment
Fenham Dad Sentenced for Harassment

Anthony Harrison, a 54-year-old father from Fenham, has been sentenced for harassment after sending a barrage of aggressive messages to the mother of his child, including a threat to 'do her in'. The case was heard at Newcastle Magistrates Court.

Background of the Relationship

Harrison had been in a relationship with the victim since 2019, and they had a son together the following year. According to prosecutor Bushra Begum, the relationship was initially good but became difficult after the victim became pregnant in 2020. The couple decided to end their relationship in summer 2025. Initially, the victim agreed to stay in contact, but this became unmanageable.

Harassment Campaign

In early October 2025, Harrison began sending messages that were described as 'aggressive' in tone. The court heard that Harrison focused on the victim's private life, particularly her new partner. The victim provided 29 screenshots of messages as evidence. The messages included swearing, degrading names, and a direct threat: 'I'll do you in'.

Ms Begum stated: 'The behaviour continues in that manner. Similar messages continue into January.'

Victim Impact and Mitigation

A victim impact statement was read to the court, in which the victim expressed concern about how Harrison would react after she reported him to police. In mitigation, Jonathan Cousins noted that Harrison had no previous convictions and expressed remorse for his actions. Mr Cousins read a prepared statement from Harrison: 'I understand the impact the messages had. I apologise for my behaviour and the stress it has caused.'

Mr Cousins added: 'There's remorse and acceptance of responsibility, which is to his credit. He has a positive side to his character. He's employed and pays child maintenance. He has a full role in the life of both his children. He accepts what he has done is unacceptable and comes to court knowing and understanding that.'

Sentence and Order

Harrison, of Cypress Avenue, Fenham, pleaded guilty to harassment without violence. He was sentenced to a 12-month community order and must attend a 'skills for relationships' programme. He was also ordered to pay a fine of £200, £85 in court costs, and a surcharge of £114. Additionally, the court issued a restraining order banning Harrison from contacting his former partner for two years.
