Man jailed for 11 years after Kennington tube stabbing

A man who carried out a terrifying and unprovoked knife attack on two strangers at a London Underground station has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison.

Calm Exit After Violent Assault

Nicholas Orlando Green, aged 36, was handed an 11-year prison sentence for a double stabbing that took place at Kennington tube station in March 2024. The court heard how Green launched a sudden attack on Phillip Thomas, 44, and Chintz Patel, 42, as they were travelling home from a dance class.

Shocking footage released by the British Transport Police (BTP) showed Green walking calmly out of the station just moments after the violent incident. The two victims required hospital treatment for their injuries but both survived the assault.

Court Conviction and Charges

Following a trial, Green was found guilty on multiple serious charges. The convictions included two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a bladed article, and common assault. The severity of the charges reflected the random and intentional nature of the attacks on the two men, who were complete strangers to their assailant.

Sentencing and Aftermath

The sentencing, which took place on Friday 5 December 2025, brings a conclusion to a case that highlighted the dangers of knife crime on London's transport network. The 11-year term underscores the court's view of the seriousness of the offences. The British Transport Police investigation, which included crucial CCTV evidence, was pivotal in securing the conviction.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the work undertaken by transport police to tackle violent crime and ensure passenger safety across the UK's rail and tube networks.
