A horrific domestic incident on Christmas Eve in Brazil has left a man dead and four others injured, after he was allegedly stabbed by his girlfriend's teenage son moments after sharing a festive kiss.
A Festive Celebration Turns Deadly
The attack occurred at a home in Jaguariúna, a town in the Sao Paulo region, during a Christmas dinner gathering. The victim, named by police as 41-year-old Leandro Flaeschen Moreira, was with his 51-year-old girlfriend, Sidneia Gonçalves dos Santos.
According to local reports, at midnight, Sidneia wished Leandro a 'Merry Christmas', to which he responded with a kiss. This act is believed to have enraged her 18-year-old son, Caio César dos Santos Bartolomeu, who allegedly disapproved of the relationship.
The Attack and Its Aftermath
Police allege that Bartolomeu immediately pulled a knife he had concealed in his pocket and stabbed Leandro. Sidneia was also injured as she tried to intervene and restrain her son.
A neighbour reported hearing screams and entered the property to find a bloodied Leandro dead on the ground. Leandro's 16-year-old daughter witnessed the attack and has since been taken into the care of Child Protective Services for temporary foster placement.
Bartolomeu fled the scene before the Jaguariúna Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM) arrived. He then allegedly went on to stab three more people in the surrounding neighbourhood before being cornered by a mob of locals and detained by police.
Investigation and Ongoing Cases
Authorities have opened an investigation for homicide and bodily harm. Bartolomeu was taken to hospital with injuries and was initially deemed unfit for a police interview due to his condition and medication.
Sidneia and the three other stabbing victims were rushed to A&E for urgent treatment. Leandro's body was sent to a forensic medical institute for an autopsy.
The tragic event follows another fatal incident in the same Brazilian state, where five members of the same family, including two children, died in a Christmas Eve car crash on the SP-331 motorway after their vehicle was hit by a BMW and burst into flames.
