A major police manhunt is underway in Sydney's west following a fatal shooting early Saturday morning, which authorities have described as a deliberate, 'targeted' attack.
Victim Found with Single Gunshot Wound
Emergency services were called to a unit complex on Newman Street in Merrylands at approximately 6.40am on Saturday after a neighbour made the grim discovery. Inside his apartment, 44-year-old Bosco Josic was found suffering from a critical gunshot wound to the chest.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mr Josic could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. Chief Inspector Tim Calman confirmed the attack was contained within the unit and that the victim was shot only once.
Police Confirm Attack Was Not Random
Homicide detectives have spent the day conducting a forensic examination of the crime scene and doorknocking local residents for information. Chief Inspector Calman revealed that while the deceased was known to police, it was for 'only a minor matter' and he had no known links to organised crime.
'It appears at this stage it was not a random attack ... it would look as if it was actually targeted,' Chief Inspector Calman stated. The investigation is now focused on identifying and locating the gunman, who remains at large.
Shocked Neighbours Hear Yelling Before Shooting
Neighbours in the quiet complex expressed their shock, describing Mr Josic as a 'nice man'. One resident reported hearing yelling from the apartment earlier in the morning but did not see anyone leave the premises.
'I was the best man at his wedding quite a long time ago but haven't seen him for a few years. He has had a hard life,' one neighbour told Ten News. Another added, 'You expect fights and the police to come... but nothing like this.'
Police have not yet released a description of the suspect, stating only that they are searching for a male. The manhunt for Mr Josic's killer continues, and detectives are urging anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers immediately.
