Petrol Bomb Thrown Through Window in Greater Manchester

Police have launched a major investigation after a suspected petrol bomb was thrown through the window of a family home in Greater Manchester, setting the property ablaze in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Family Targeted in Appalling Attack

The incident occurred shortly before 2am on Sunday, 18 January 2026, at a terraced house on South Terrace in the Redvales area of Bury. It is understood the device was launched through a ground-floor window while the property was occupied.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and a significant police cordon was established. Images from the location show the end-terrace property with its windows boarded up and visible smoke damage following the blaze.

Councillor Condemns "Extremely Dangerous" Act

Local councillor Tamoor Tariq has issued a strong statement confirming the family inside were unharmed but left deeply traumatised. He described the attack as "appalling and extremely dangerous".

"I can confirm that, thankfully, everyone living in the property is safe, as are the neighbouring family," said Coun Tariq. "However, the impact has been devastating. The damage to the home is extensive and the family have lost everything."

He emphasised that the act "could easily have resulted in loss of life" and called for those responsible to face the full force of the law.

Police Appeal for Crucial Footage

Greater Manchester Police are treating the incident with the utmost seriousness and have maintained a high-visibility presence in the neighbourhood. A full investigation is now underway.

Councillor Tariq has made a direct appeal to residents in the surrounding streets, including Central Avenue, Kendal Drive, and Radcliffe Road, to check any private CCTV, doorbell cameras, or dashcam footage from around 1:55am.

"Even the smallest detail could be crucial in helping the police identify those responsible," he stated, urging anyone with information to contact Greater Manchester Police directly.

The family, who have been offered support, are said to be shaken but safe after the terrifying ordeal which has destroyed their home and personal belongings.
