Primark Recalls Coin Purse Over Serious Chemical Risk to Customers
Primark Recalls Coin Purse Over Chemical Risk

Primark has issued an urgent recall on a brown colour block coin purse sold for £6 after it was found to contain excessive levels of phthalates, chemicals used to prolong product lifespan. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) issued an alert on June 30, stating the product presents a "serious chemical risk" to the public.

Details of the Recall

The affected product is a brown colour block coin purse with model code 3103002 and barcode 991169270. The chemicals detected include Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), and Short Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (SCCPs). The OPSS stated: "Phthalates are harmful to health and may cause damage to the reproductive system." The product does not meet UK chemical regulations designed to protect human health and the environment, and was made in China.

Customer Instructions

Customers who have purchased the purse are urged to stop using it immediately and return it to any Primark store for a full refund. The watchdog also advised keeping the purse out of reach of children. Customers can contact Primark through its help centre or live chat function for further assistance.

Previous Recalls

This is not the first recall from Primark this year. Earlier in 2026, the retailer recalled Baby Bear and Balloon Soother Clips due to a choking risk. The OPSS stated those items were not compliant with relevant safety standards for soother clips.
