A 17-year-old boy has tragically died following a severe road traffic collision that left six individuals hospitalised. The incident occurred on Saltburn Lane, between Saltburn and Skelton in East Cleveland, on Saturday afternoon.
Details of the Collision
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:45pm after a black Ford Fiesta and a silver Toyota Corolla collided. Two air ambulances, five ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, and a duty officer responded to the incident.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta, Alfie Sivills, 17, from East Cleveland, was taken to hospital but died on Monday evening. Cleveland Police confirmed his passing, stating, "His family are being supported by specially trained officers and our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time."
Injuries and Hospitalisations
Two other teenagers travelling in the back of the Ford Fiesta—a 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy—remain in hospital receiving treatment. The 17-year-old's injuries were previously described as life-threatening. An 18-year-old front-seat passenger was treated for a broken arm and has since been discharged.
The occupants of the Toyota Corolla, a 54-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, are also receiving treatment in hospital.
Investigation Ongoing
The road was closed for several hours to allow emergency services to attend to the injured and for collision investigators to examine the scene. It is understood that the Ford Fiesta was travelling from the Saltburn bank towards the A174, while the Toyota Corolla was heading in the opposite direction.
Cleveland Police are continuing their investigation and are urging any witnesses, or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference SE26108872.
