An 18-year-old student has tragically drowned after entering the River Wye while on a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) expedition in Wales. Emergency services were called to the river in Glasbury, Powys, on Tuesday evening after reports that the teenager had gone into the water and disappeared.

Search and Recovery

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that the teenager's body was located following a search operation involving a mountain rescue team and the fire service. The police have not released the identity of the deceased but have informed the next of kin.

A spokesperson for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award said: “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a young person on a DofE expedition has died. Our thoughts are with their family, friends, and all those affected. We are supporting the expedition provider and the authorities in their investigations.”
