Two Boys Die in Hot Car in Cyprus After Being Left to Sleep

Two young boys, aged eight and ten, have been found dead inside a locked car in the British base of Dhekelia, Cyprus, after allegedly being left to sleep by their father and stepmother. The children were discovered in a vehicle parked in a field near a residential area, according to the Cyprus Mail.

Arrests Made in Connection with Deaths

Police from the British bases arrested the children's father and stepmother on suspicion of negligence. A British bases spokesperson confirmed that officers were conducting investigations at a house in Xylophagou, Famagusta district, to determine the cause of death. While the exact cause has not been confirmed, local media reports indicate the bodies showed signs consistent with asphyxiation. Forensic examinations are underway.

Heatwave Linked to Multiple Tragedies Across Europe

The incident occurred as Europe experiences record-breaking temperatures. Over the past week, four similar deaths have been reported during the heatwave. In France, an 18-month-old baby died after being left in a car at La Timone Hospital in Marseille, suffering from hyperthermia. In another French incident, a 33-year-old mother faces manslaughter charges after her four-year-old daughter and two-year-old son were found dead in a locked car.
