Boy, 14, arrested after death of Manchester teen Madison

The heartbroken family of a 13-year-old girl have paid tribute to their 'bubbly, loving' daughter as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death last month.

Investigation and Arrest

Madison Richardson, known as Maddie, died in hospital on 24 November after emergency services were called to an address in Manchester over a concern for her welfare. In the days following her tragic death, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) made an arrest as part of their ongoing investigation.

A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody on suspicion of harassment connected to the case. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries. Officers have stated they are examining the full circumstances of Madison's death, including whether the actions of any other person contributed to it.

A Family's Devastating Loss

In a statement released on Christmas Eve, Madison's family expressed their profound grief. They described her as a 'bubbly, loving character' who 'lit up every room' with her presence and unforgettable laugh.

"Maddie had a real passion for art, she was so talented, and we are so unbelievably proud of her creativity," they said. "Maddie truly was one of a kind, she had a heart of gold and was fiercely protective of those she loved especially her siblings, who will miss her deeply."

Tributes from School Community

James Docherty, executive head teacher at Teenage Kicks school, remembered Madison as a 'wonderfully creative' student with a remarkable gift for art. He highlighted her skills in sketching, painting, and face-painting, noting her ability to turn ordinary moments into something magical.

"Maddie didn’t just make beautiful art—she made people feel special," Mr Docherty said. "There was a gentleness in her, a kindness that flowed naturally, and it touched pupils and staff alike. She will be carried in our memories with love, pride, and endless appreciation."

Detective Inspector Andrew Day, from GMP's Oldham district, acknowledged the family's pain, particularly during the festive season. "Madison’s death is utterly heartbreaking for her friends and family," he said. "Our thoughts remain with all of them at this time. We are committed to getting the much-needed answers for her family."

The police investigation remains active as authorities work to piece together the events leading to the teenager's untimely death.
