Teacher Fired After Asking Students Disturbing Sexual Questions
Teacher Fired Over Inappropriate Student Questions

A veteran science teacher has been dismissed from his position after school authorities discovered he had previously asked students a series of deeply disturbing questions, including one particularly shocking inquiry about sexual activity with a deceased individual.

Inappropriate Questions During School Discussions

Jason Robert Morgan is no longer employed by Chanel College in Gladstone, central Queensland, after the institution learned earlier this month that he had been formally censured over highly inappropriate comments made during his previous teaching role in New Zealand.

According to a published decision by the New Zealand Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal, the concerning incidents occurred in March and April 2023 when Morgan served as both a science teacher and boarding house assistant at a New Zealand school.

Disturbing Content of Questions

The tribunal revealed that Morgan posed sexual questions to boarders during what were supposed to be calming "thought of the day" discussions intended to settle students before bedtime. These conversations took an entirely inappropriate turn with questions that included: "Would you have regular sex with a seven out of ten or have a one-night stand with a nine out of ten?" and "Would you sleep with an absolute ten out of ten if she was crazy as?"

Perhaps most disturbing was the question: "How long would you wait to have sex with a dead girl?" which demonstrated a complete breach of professional boundaries and appropriate conduct for an educator.

Additional Inappropriate Comments

The tribunal documented further instances of misconduct, including an occasion when Morgan apologized to a student after saying "I'll cum on your mum's back" in front of classmates. In another conversation about hunting that turned to bestiality, Morgan warned students: "Be careful, you Gissy boys don't f*** them [goats]."

Investigation and Consequences

An investigation was launched in April 2023 after two Year 10 students reported Morgan's comments to the boarding school director. Following this investigation, Morgan voluntarily resigned from his New Zealand position, acknowledged that he had brought the teaching profession into disrepute, and relocated to Australia to begin anew.

He initially secured employment at St Patrick's College in northern Brisbane before later joining Chanel College. It was only when the New Zealand tribunal published its decision that Australian school authorities became aware of his previous misconduct.

School Response and Suspension

Chanel College and the Catholic Education Diocese of Rockhampton suspended Morgan on March 11 upon learning of the tribunal's findings and immediately contacted the Queensland College of Teachers. A spokesperson for the diocese confirmed that neither the school nor the diocese had been aware of the information contained in the tribunal decision prior to Morgan's employment.

"CEDR confirms that Mr Morgan is no longer an employee of Chanel College, Gladstone or Catholic Education, Diocese of Rockhampton," the spokesperson stated, adding that student safety and protection remained their highest priority.

Tribunal Findings and Teacher's Response

The New Zealand Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal found Morgan's behavior constituted serious misconduct, particularly troubling because the inappropriate comments were repeated rather than isolated incidents. The tribunal determined his actions adversely reflected on his fitness to teach.

During the hearing, which Morgan attended by video link, he acknowledged his "destructive" personal traits that led to the misconduct and claimed to have developed awareness of triggers for such behavior. He provided examples of personal growth, including recognizing he should have used professional communication channels rather than his personal mobile phone when contacting a student.

Remedial Efforts and Penalties

Morgan told the tribunal he had been engaging in reflective walks and had lost a "significant amount of weight," suggesting personal transformation. He noted that regular behavioral training for teachers in Australia had helped him understand and modify his conduct.

While the tribunal accepted that Morgan was genuinely remorseful and committed to positive change, it still imposed significant penalties. He was formally censured—the only realistic penalty available since he was teaching in Queensland—and ordered to pay 40 percent of complaints assessment committee costs, amounting to $1,496.

Current Registration Status

Despite his dismissal from Chanel College, Morgan remains registered as a teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers according to their official website. His current registration is due to expire on February 28, 2029.

The Queensland College of Teachers declined to comment on individual teacher registration or matters of professional conduct when approached for clarification about Morgan's ongoing status within the profession.
