Channel 4's 'Secret Genius' Returns for Second Series

Channel 4 has confirmed that its popular programme 'Secret Genius' will return for an extended second series, following the success of its debut season. The show, which drew 2.1 million viewers for its opening episode, is set to expand to seven episodes, offering even more interactive challenges for both contestants and viewers at home.

Hosts Return for New Season

Presenters Alan Carr and Susie Dent will reprise their roles, guiding audiences through a fresh collection of puzzles and intelligence tests designed to uncover the remarkable abilities of everyday people. The first series, which launched in February, featured contestants from diverse backgrounds tackling large-scale challenges inspired by Mensa IQ tests.

Excitement from the Hosts

Alan Carr expressed his enthusiasm, stating: "I'm absolutely thrilled Secret Genius is back and to be doing this alongside Susie again! We met people last series with unbelievable brains who had no idea how brilliant they were, and watching that penny drop was genuinely magical. This series feels really special - bigger, more playful, and giving everyone at home the chance to join in and maybe discover a bit of hidden genius themselves."

Susie Dent, a lexicographer known for her work on Countdown, described the first series as "life-changing" for some participants. She said: "I'm delighted that Alan and I will have a new chance to discover people who have as yet no idea just how special they are. The first series of Secret Genius proved genuinely life-changing for some of our participants, and it was a privilege to see their new-found confidence."

Production and Format

The upcoming series, co-produced by Mothership and WPP Media Motion Entertainment, will introduce new games and inventive ways to test contestants and viewers. Madonna Benjamin, Senior Commissioning Editor for Documentaries and Factual Entertainment at Channel 4, commented: "Secret Genius and the wonderful Alan and Susie struck a real chord with the audience by celebrating intelligence in all its forms and turning it into a joyful, shared experience. We're delighted to be bringing it back with a bigger, bolder new series, helping even more people from across the country to unlock their hidden genius."

The first series of Secret Genius is currently available to stream on Channel 4.
