Netflix has unveiled a significant casting update for one of its most anticipated original films slated for release this year. The streaming giant confirmed that comedy veterans Cedric the Entertainer and Tracy Morgan have joined the voice cast of the upcoming animated feature, Swapped.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Takes Shape
The film, which was previously announced to star Hollywood icon Michael B Jordan and Juno Temple, now boasts an even more impressive ensemble. Cedric the Entertainer and Tracy Morgan, both celebrated for their iconic roles in television and film comedy, will lend their distinctive voices to the project. This major update solidifies Swapped as a headline title in Netflix's 2026 animation slate.
A Royal Body-Swap in the Animal Kingdom
The plot of Swapped is set in a lush and majestic animal realm known as the Valley. The story centres on a small woodland creature, voiced by Michael B Jordan, who finds himself entangled in magical body-swap chaos with a regal bird, brought to life by Juno Temple. An official synopsis describes them as "two sworn enemies" who are compelled to "walk in each other’s feathers and fur" on a wild, shared journey.
The film is under the direction of Nathan Greno, the co-director behind Disney's beloved hit, Tangled. The screenplay is penned by John Whittington, known for The Lego Batman Movie, with additional writing from the duo Christian Magalhaes and Robert Snow (DuckTales, WondLa). The production team features heavyweight producers including John Lasseter, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Mary Ellen Bauder Andrews.
An Emotional and Humorous Ride
Director Nathan Greno has promised audiences a multifaceted cinematic experience. In a statement, he described Swapped as "an unpredictable, emotional ride — full of humour, spectacle, and heart." He revealed the creative team drew inspiration from live-action nature documentaries to craft a vibrant ecosystem that feels deeply human.
Greno heaped praise on his lead actors, stating their performances provide the film with "warmth and authenticity." "Every moment between them feels alive — funny one second, deeply moving the next," he said. "Their chemistry lifts the story and gives Swapped its wings."
While an exact premiere date has not been set, Netflix has confirmed that Swapped will debut exclusively on the platform sometime in 2026.
The announcement comes as Michael B Jordan continues to generate significant awards buzz for his dual role in the horror drama Sinners. His co-star, Juno Temple, remains a fan favourite for her performance in Ted Lasso and recent roles in major film releases.
