A 30-year-old woman has criticised her sister for planning to name her unborn daughter after an STI, insisting the divisive choice would make a 'pretty' baby name. The younger sister, 27, is approximately six months pregnant with her first child and is 'super excited' about impending motherhood, according to the older sibling.
Writing on Reddit, the woman explained that her sister recently revealed her preferred name: Chlamydia, spelled Klamidia. 'I honestly thought she was kidding at first for obvious reasons. That's the dumbest f*ing name idea I've ever heard,' she wrote. The sister said she had seen posts online suggesting the name could be cute and believed the alternative spelling would prevent immediate association with the sexually transmitted infection.
Sister's Reaction and Family Involvement
Upon hearing the name, the woman laughed uncontrollably, certain it was a joke. But her sister's expression confirmed she was entirely genuine. When asked to explain, the sister said she'd initially laughed off the idea but later thought it 'actually could be cute.' She argued that the different spelling would help 'get rid of the stigma around the name' and that it might even 'catch on.'
The woman warned her sister that the name would condemn her daughter to a lifetime of bullying, but her concerns were dismissed. 'She told me it's her decision and that I'm being her child's first bully by making fun of the name. Apparently, her husband also agrees with this name choice,' she added.
