Anne Hathaway Reveals Decade-Long Battle with Cataract in Candid Confession

Anne Hathaway has opened up about a decade-long health struggle that left her nearly blind in one eye. The 43-year-old actress shared on the Popcast podcast that she lived with a cataract in her left eye for years, which severely impacted her vision and mental health.

“I was half blind for 10 years,” Hathaway said. “It impacted my vision so much that I was basically legally blind out of my left eye, and I wound up getting surgery. And I didn’t realize how bad it had gotten until I could finally see the full spectrum.” Cataracts, a clouding of the eye’s lens, typically affect older individuals but can be corrected with surgery in early-onset cases.

The actress noted that the condition unknowingly taxed her nervous system. “I’ve calmed down since then,” she added. “I didn’t realize it was actually taxing my nervous system.” She expressed gratitude for her restored vision, calling it a “miracle” that previous generations might not have had access to.

In a separate interview with Elle, Hathaway addressed rumours that she had undergone a facelift, sharing a hairpin trick as a non-surgical alternative. “We’re at a time when people feel very confident in assuming what they think is fact,” she said. “The speculation has gotten so loud that you do feel the need to just get your truth out there.” She clarified that she may consider a facelift in the future but would keep it private.

Hathaway, a mother of two sons with husband Adam Shulman, has five films releasing in 2026, including The Devil Wears Prada 2 and The Odyssey.
