Christine McGuinness has opened up about the moment she reached a 'breaking point' in her marriage to Paddy McGuinness, which led to her issuing an ultimatum. The Celebrity MasterChef star, 36, revealed that she struggled after moving to Bolton with the Take Me Out presenter, feeling isolated as she knew no one in the Lancashire town while Paddy frequently commuted to London for work.
In her 2021 autobiography A Beautiful Nightmare, Christine described having a 'mini meltdown' when their twins were one, telling Paddy she 'can't stay here anymore' and threatening to leave Bolton with or without him. The couple subsequently relocated to Cheshire, a move Christine described as the 'best decision' they ever made, bringing them closer to family and within commuting distance of London.
Christine, who has autism along with her three children Felicity, Leo, and Penelope, said the move allowed them to access a school that is 'particularly good' for autistic youngsters. She expressed relief that Paddy agreed to the move, adding: 'Moving changed our lives. I'm so glad he agreed to it when I had that meltdown, because imagine if he had said no.'
The couple, who were married for 15 years, announced their separation in 2022 but continue to live together amicably. In July, Christine revealed she is 'completely on my own' for the first time and is 'really happy single', though she has previously expressed a desire for love, describing intimacy as 'magical'.
Christine is currently appearing on Celebrity MasterChef, which she described as 'the most daunting thing I have ever done'. At home, she prepares 'sensory safe' meals for her family, such as plain pasta and chicken, but wanted to challenge herself on the show to encourage her children to explore new foods.
