Television star Emily Atack has ignited a flurry of online speculation after showcasing a noticeably slimmer figure in recent social media posts. The actress and comedian, long celebrated for promoting body positivity, shared images that prompted fans to both congratulate her and question the methods behind her transformation.
Social Media Snaps Fuel Speculation
The 36-year-old mother-of-one posted a mirror selfie from a London hair salon this weekend, modelling a new bob hairstyle. Dressed in a black shirt and jeans, Atack captioned the playful image "Bobviously", but it was her changed physique that captured significant attention from her followers.
Further photographs from over the Christmas period and earlier in December also depicted the star with a trim waistline, including one where she posed in an outdoor bathtub with her toned back on display. While many praised her glowing complexion, the shift in her figure led some to wonder if the star, who welcomed son Barney with fiancé Alistair Garner 19 months ago, had altered her approach to body image.
Fat Jab Rumours and a Silent Response
Having publicly championed a "natural figure" and spoken candidly about being a size 10-14, the noticeable change has led to rumours that Atack may have turned to weight loss injections like Wegovy or Mounjaro – often colloquially referred to as "fat jabs".
However, those close to the actress suggest she will not be drawn into the public debate. A friend told the Daily Mail, "She is acutely aware of what is her business and what is not." The Mirror has also contacted a representative for Emily Atack for comment.
A History of Body Image Advocacy
This speculation sits in stark contrast to Atack's longstanding public stance. Since her breakout role as Charlotte "Big Jugs" Hinchcliffe in The Inbetweeners in 2008, she has frequently expressed discomfort over the sexualisation and scrutiny of her body.
Her appearance on ITV's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2018 was a pivotal moment, allowing her to connect with the public beyond a "sex symbol" label. She later reflected that the jungle experience taught her to "love myself without all those things."
In past interviews, Atack has been vocal about the pressure on women's appearances, criticising overly thin mannequins and retouched Instagram images. She has also campaigned fiercely against online abuse, having been targeted with sexually explicit messages, and called for stronger laws to protect women.
Despite her new look sparking conversation, Emily Atack's career continues to thrive, with recent roles including a part in the 2024 BBC drama Rivals. The public discussion surrounding her physique underscores the persistent and complex scrutiny faced by women in the spotlight, even those who have actively fought against such narratives.
