Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to reunite with King Charles next month during their visit to the UK for the Invictus Games, but a royal commentator has cast doubt on the sincerity of their intentions. Kinsey Schofield, speaking on TalkTV, asserted that the couple have no desire to mend fences with the Royal Family, describing them as 'users' who rely on royal magic to maintain their relevance in the United States.
King Charles May Offer Buckingham Palace Stay
Reports suggest that King Charles may offer the Sussexes and their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, accommodation at Buckingham Palace during their visit. This comes despite the couple stepping down as working royals and moving to California in 2020, which led to ongoing tensions with the Royal Family. However, Schofield believes the couple's actions are not driven by a genuine wish for reconciliation.
Comparison with Thomas Markle Estrangement
Schofield pointed to Meghan's estranged relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, as evidence of the couple's insincerity. 'If this was a sincere outreach for a reconciliation, then Thomas Markle deserves a phone call and a visit from Harry and Meghan,' she told host Jeremy Kyle. 'He is yet to meet his grandchildren. Harry and Meghan are users that need that royal magic and royal proximity so that they can continue to try and sell themselves in the United States.'
Thomas Markle, 81, underwent emergency surgery last year to have his left leg amputated below the knee. A spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex claimed she reached out to him after the procedure, but the pair have been estranged since 2018, with no indication of a reunion during the upcoming UK trip.
Father's Day Promotion Sparks Criticism
Earlier in June, Meghan faced backlash for a Father's Day promotion for her lifestyle brand, As Ever. Critics argued that the products were inappropriate for the occasion and that Meghan, given her strained relationships with both her father and King Charles, was not in a position to offer Father's Day advice. One user on X commented: 'How's this for irony? Anyone think Megsie will be knocking on her poor father's door on Father's Day to say her own thanks?' Another added: 'The woman who erased her own father from her life is suggesting how we can use her cheaply made products to honour our own fathers. This is a profound level of arrogant hypocrisy.'
No Indication of Reconciliation with Royal Family
Despite rumours that Prince Harry hopes to reconcile with his family, Schofield's analysis suggests otherwise. The couple's continued focus on their US ventures, including Meghan's brand and Harry's Invictus Games commitments, indicates that their primary goal remains commercial success rather than familial harmony. The upcoming UK visit, while symbolic, is unlikely to lead to a lasting peace, according to the commentator.
