Jon Stewart has returned from his summer break with a scathing critique of Donald Trump, comparing the president to a 'Make-A-Wish kid' following widespread speculation about his health. The comedian, hosting The Daily Show, noted that August is usually quiet for political news but this year saw a flurry of developments, including Trump's meeting with Vladimir Putin and the Epstein files.
Stewart addressed rumours that Trump had been 'absent from the public eye', with the hashtag 'Trump is dead' trending on social media. He joked that journalists have 'no chill', saying: 'Guy can't take a few days for some R&R and a non-surgical breast reduction without everybody suddenly pulling out the toe tags?'
Stewart confirmed Trump is alive but highlighted the president's diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, a condition affecting blood flow in the legs. Referring to Trump's 'unsightly cankles' and 'lumpy eyes', Stewart blamed 'superficial Instagram culture' for unrealistic expectations about fluid clearance.
The comedian suggested that Trump's allies appear to be saying their goodbyes, likening the atmosphere to a Make-A-Wish scenario. 'Everyone who shows up to his office and tries to make one of his dreams come true,' Stewart said, citing examples such as Trump receiving an honorary US Marshal badge and demanding the Nobel Peace Prize.
Stewart concluded that the nation is 'held hostage by the fragile ego of a man-baby president, who may or may not be dying of hand syphilis, but is puffy'. He referenced The Twilight Zone, drawing parallels to an episode where a child sends people to a cornfield when angered.
