Kate Garraway has revealed she would support her 20-year-old daughter Darcey appearing on ITV's Love Island, and would even consider joining the show herself if she felt confident in a bikini. The Good Morning Britain presenter, who shares Darcey and 16-year-old William with her late husband Derek Draper, spoke to Digital Spy about the popular dating series.
Love Island, now in its 13th season on ITV2, features contestants living in a villa in Majorca, spending days in swimwear while getting to know each other and taking part in challenges like the Heart Rate challenge, which involves lap dances. Despite the risqué nature of the show, Garraway said she would allow her daughter to participate, though Darcey has declined. “I would let Darcey do Love Island, yeah, but she says she will never do it!” Garraway said.
Garraway's Own Love Island Aspirations
Garraway admitted she would love to appear on Love Island herself, but cited her lack of bikini readiness as a barrier. “I'd love to do Love Island, but I'm not really bikini ready!” she joked. However, she also noted that she has already found love, making a reality TV romance unnecessary.
The former Celebrity Traitors star is currently in a relationship with economist Liam Halligan. In May, she was seen supporting him at a charity cycling event, and later told the Mirror at the Chelsea Flower Show that the romance “is lovely.” She kept details sparse, saying, “We basically haven’t really had time for a proper date! I don’t want to jinx it! I don’t want to say anything because I will jinx it! I will jinx it. We all love an Irishman don’t we?”
Balancing Romance and Family
When asked about plans for proper dates, Garraway said Halligan has been pushing for them. “He says to me, 'Now we're in the papers, is there a chance we can actually have some dates?' But my mum and dad have not been very well so I’ve been really consumed by that.” She added that her father was supposed to accompany her to Chelsea but was too unwell. Despite the challenges, she described the romance as “lovely” and a source of light relief.
Halligan was reportedly friendly with Garraway's late husband Derek Draper, a political lobbyist and spin doctor who married Kate in 2005 and died in 2024 from complications of long Covid.
