Keanu Reeves' partner Alexandra Grant has provided a rare glimpse into their long-term relationship. The 53-year-old visual artist, who has accompanied the actor to red carpet events over the years, spoke to People this week to mark the launch of her LOVEwine brand.
Mutual Respect and Creative Collaboration
Grant and the John Wick star, 61, went public with their romance in 2019 after first meeting a decade earlier. 'He's always so appreciative, so he's always cautious, I think, with feedback, and I would say the same,' she said of Reeves while discussing their work. Grant emphasized that they share 'mutual respect' for each other's work and a 'belief in projects.'
'Every project has its own autonomy, its own team, it has its own sort of rules, and it has a beginning, middle and end,' she explained. 'So we both are people who do projects, and you know, I've lived with John Wick, I've lived with Neo.'
Understanding Each Other's Creative Process
Grant noted that when Reeves is 'in a character,' she has 'so much respect for that understanding that this is the middle to the end of a project.' She drew parallels to her own painting, describing it as 'a form of performance too.' The couple respect each other's need to 'dive deep' into their creative processes, even if that means being quiet or working with others.
'You want to always be respectful and leave the other person to bake their cake. Just talking about my love makes me sweat,' Grant told the outlet.
The LOVEwine Brand
LOVEwine is a wine brand created by Grant, inspired by her philanthropic art project grantLOVE. In collaboration with J Vineyards & Winery in Sonoma County, California, they have produced a limited-edition California Brut Cuvée. Each bottling features a LOVE label created with a leading female-identified artist, turning every bottle into a canvas for artistic expression.
A History of Collaboration
Grant and Reeves first met at a dinner party in 2009. Two years later, they worked together on his book Ode to Happiness, for which she provided illustrations. They also collaborated on his second book, Shadows, in 2016, with Grant contributing photographs. In 2017, they launched a publishing house called X Artists' Books. The couple went public with their relationship at a Museum of Contemporary Art event in Los Angeles in 2019.
Public Reactions and Rare Comments
Grant previously told Vogue in 2020 that 'every single person I knew called me' after going public. Reeves has also made rare comments about their relationship. In 2023, he told People his 'last moment of bliss' was 'a couple of days ago with my honey. We were in bed. We were connected. We were smiling and laughing and giggling.' He shared the secret to their long-lasting relationship as 'sharing, communicating, you know, supporting.'
Despite speculation, a rep denied they secretly married last year, stating, 'It is not true. They are not married.'
Recent Appearances
The couple's romance remains strong. In January, Reeves made a rare appearance on Grant's Instagram, sharing a romantic kiss while ice skating in New York City. Their most recent red carpet appearance was in April at the premiere of Reeves' movie Outcome, where they held hands and posed together.
