Keira Knightley has said she was unaware of calls to boycott JK Rowling before agreeing to voice a character in the new full-cast Harry Potter audiobooks. The actor, who plays Dolores Umbridge in the recordings, told Decider she had not heard about the boycott demands.
When asked about fan calls for a boycott, Knightley said: 'I was not aware of that, no. I’m very sorry. You know, I think we’re all living in a period of time right now where we’re all going to have to figure out how to live together, aren’t we? And we’ve all got very different opinions.'
The actor stars alongside Cush Jumbo as narrator, Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, and Riz Ahmed as Severus Snape in the Full-Cast Audio Editions of the Harry Potter series.
Boycott calls have intensified following Rowling's reaction to the UK Supreme Court's ruling on the legal definition of a woman, where she posted a photo of herself smoking a cigar. Rowling also recently criticised actor Emma Watson over trans rights, calling her 'ignorant of how ignorant she is'.
