Love Island's Lola Deal and Sean Fitzgerald have suffered a crushing setback before this season's inaugural public vote elimination, as betting odds reveal stiff competition from another fan-favourite duo.
New Couple Steals the Spotlight
The ITV2 romance show made its comeback at the start of the month, with 12 new Islanders stepping into the iconic villa seeking their perfect match. While their fellow contestants have been pursuing multiple romantic avenues throughout the past three weeks, detective Lola and primary school teacher Sean have remained paired since day one. The pair have even become exclusive, pledging to concentrate solely on one another for the remainder of the series. Furthermore, they declared their love merely two weeks after their initial encounter.
Despite appearing to have secured their place in the finale, Sean and Lola face stiff competition from Kavan Murphy and Jasmine Muller, based on latest odds, reports OK!. Betting platform Oddschecker has disclosed that Kavan and Jasmine have captured punters' attention this week, drawing 33% of wagers placed on the eventual champions. In contrast, just 13% of stakes recorded between June 22 and 23 supported Lola and Sean as the programme's anticipated victors.
Oddschecker Spokesman Comments
Oddschecker spokesman Chris Rogers stated: "Kavan and Jasmine have been popular with bettors this week; the pair accounted for 33% of bets placed over the last 24 hours while long term favourites Lola and Sean were the least backed couple. At 8/1, Kavan and Jasmine have an implied win probability of just 11% but continued backing from punters will slash their odds as we head towards the crucial stages of the programme."
Lola and Sean remain frontrunners in the betting with 5/2 odds, but growing backing for other couples could spell trouble.
Upcoming Dumping Drama
The villa faces another dramatic dumping this week after viewers cast their votes for their favourite boy and girl following Tuesday's (June 23) episode. The Islanders will discover the dumping in scenes due to broadcast tonight (June 24). It kicks off with Angelista Gunda receiving a text summoning the cast to the Fire Pit. There, Yasmin Hadlow gets another message which "has huge consequences for the group". It reads: "Islanders, the public has been voting for their favourite girl and favourite boy. Those with the fewest votes will be at risk of being dumped from the island."
As the results are announced, the vulnerable Islanders rise to their feet to learn their destiny. We expect the elimination won't be shown until Thursday's episode.
Love Island airs Sundays to Fridays at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
