Nagi Maehashi, the founder of the popular cooking blog RecipeTin Eats, has announced the death of her golden retriever Dozer, who died last week at the age of 13. Dozer was a regular feature on Maehashi's blog and appeared on the covers of her two bestselling cookbooks, Tonight and Dinner.
Maehashi shared the news on social media on Sunday, writing that Dozer had been hospitalised in January with a lung infection, complicated by his age and existing medical conditions. 'Dozer was many things to many people,' she wrote on Instagram. 'But to me, he was just my baby boy who loved me unconditionally.'
The cookbook author said she was struggling to respond to messages of support, adding that she would eventually be able to look at photos of Dozer without crying. 'I know all these tears are because I loved him so much, and I wouldn’t trade this pain for a second that I got to spend with him,' she wrote.
Dozer's popularity extended beyond the blog, as Maehashi's cookbook Dinner became the fastest-selling cookbook in Australian publishing history upon its release in 2023. Her blog receives over 500 million hits annually.
During Dozer's hospitalisation, Maehashi shared that his preferred treat had become a plain water ice block, noting how expectations lower in such circumstances. She assured fans she would return to posting food content, saying, 'Dozer would not have it any other way.'
