Snoop Dogg Challenged DJ Maceo Plex's Wife to a Legendary Smoke-Off
Snoop Dogg Challenged DJ's Wife to Smoke-Off

Snoop Dogg once challenged the wife of renowned electronic music producer Maceo Plex to a legendary “smoke-off” after hearing she could outdo the rap icon, Maceo Plex has revealed exclusively. The surreal encounter occurred during the Covid era when both artists were participating in livestream events.

The Backstage Confession

Speaking ahead of his set at OFFSónar in Barcelona last week, Maceo Plex – whose real name is Eric Estornel – laughed as he recalled the moment. “When we were done, his manager came over and said, ‘Snoop wants to meet you,’” he said. “He’d heard that my wife could smoke more weed than him and wanted to smoke with her.”

Maceo’s wife, Christine Mooneyhan, performs under the name Maars. The challenge never materialised because Maars had decided to head home before Snoop’s invitation arrived. “She was like, ‘There’s no way Snoop’s going to be available to me,’” Maceo added. “But it actually happened because my manager had told him she was a major smoker.”

Snoop’s Legendary Setup

The DJ described Snoop’s famously well-stocked smoking setup, which includes a dedicated joint roller who prepares cannabis with resin and wax. “I took one or two puffs and was choking,” Maceo admitted with a laugh. “He laughed at me. I fell asleep in the car afterwards – I was so embarrassed.” Despite the experience, Maceo insisted the rapper was “the sweetest guy” and said the encounter led to a lasting connection with Snoop’s team.

Prioritising Health Over Touring

Away from celebrity stories, Maceo reflected on his demanding touring schedule, which sees him playing dozens of shows across multiple countries this summer. He revealed he has consciously cut back in recent years, choosing to prioritise his health and wellbeing over constant travel and late-night partying. “I’m healthier than ever,” he explained, adding that getting older made him rethink the relentless pace often associated with life as a touring DJ.

A Special Connection with Barcelona

The producer was particularly excited to perform at OFFSónar in Barcelona, describing the city as somewhere that feels like home after years of appearances. “It feels like home,” he said. “I’ve played every single stage here and even hosted my own parties. Every time I come back, it’s special.”
