Tom Kane, the acclaimed voice actor best known for portraying Yoda in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, has passed away at the age of 64. His talent agency confirmed his death on Monday.
A Legendary Career
Galactic Productions announced the news on Facebook, stating: 'Today we say goodbye to Tom Kane - a legendary voice actor whose work shaped the childhoods and imaginations of millions around the world. From his unforgettable performances in Star Wars to countless animated series, documentaries and games, Tom brought wisdom, strength, humour and heart to every role he touched.'
Kane voiced Yoda in the animated series from 2008 to 2020, as well as in multiple video games and theme park attractions. He also voiced Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Professor Utonium in The Powerpuff Girls from 2016 to 2019.
Early Beginnings and Diverse Roles
Born in Kansas City, Kane began his voiceover career at just 15 years old. Over the years, he contributed to numerous video games, including the Call of Duty series, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and Marvel Future Revolution.
Retirement After Stroke
In 2020, Kane suffered a stroke that left him largely unable to speak, forcing him to retire. His daughter Sam shared on Facebook at the time: 'About two months ago he had a left side stroke that gave him right sided weakness and damage to the speech center of his brain. This means right now he cannot efficiently communicate verbally, nor read or spell.' She added that his neurologist warned he might not do voiceovers again, but he remained in good spirits and showed improvements in speech.
Family and Legacy
Kane is survived by his wife Cindy and their nine children—three biological and six adopted or fostered. The statement from Galactic Productions concluded: 'But beyond the incredible career was an extraordinary man. Tom was a devoted husband and father who, alongside his wife, built a loving family of nine children... That compassion and generosity defined who he was just as much as his remarkable talent did.'
The post ended with a tribute: 'Rest in peace, Tom Kane. Thank you for everything. May the Force be with you, always.'
