Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay made a poignant appearance at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, still wearing his wedding ring as he cheered on his beloved Bolton Wanderers in the League One play-off final against Stockport County. The 52-year-old, who announced his separation from wife Tess Daly earlier this month, was seen in a brown shirt and cream slacks, with the ring visibly on his finger.
A Town United by Football
Speaking to Sky Sports, Kay expressed the deep connection between the club and the town. "For fans to remain and be faithful to Bolton Wanderers is really special. The football club drives the town. If the football club does well, Bolton is literally lit up," he said. One fan responded on X: "Vernon Kay gets it. Sticking with Bolton Wanderers — through bad years, lower leagues, and doubt — isn't blind faith. It's community. Today's final against Stockport means everything to that town."
Friendliest Divorce in Showbiz
Kay and Daly, who have been married for 22 years and have two daughters, announced their separation earlier this month in a joint statement describing it as "amicable." They said: "After much consideration, and with a deep sense of care and respect for one another, we have made the decision to separate amicably. We remain great friends and most importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents." A source told the Daily Mail that the split is "straight-forward" and that both are financially independent, with Kay earning £395,000 from BBC Radio 2 and Daly around £400,000 from her Strictly Come Dancing role and swimwear brand. They share a five-bedroom Buckinghamshire home worth an estimated £3 million.
