Barry Keoghan has expressed his excitement about the upcoming Beatles biopic films, describing them as 'incredible' and highlighting their 'indie soul' despite the scale of the production. The 33-year-old Irish actor portrays drummer Sir Ringo Starr in Sir Sam Mendes's ambitious project, The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event.
Star-Studded Cast
Keoghan joins a stellar ensemble that includes Paul Mescal as Sir Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. The four films are set to explore the lives of each member of the Fab Four and are scheduled for release in April 2028.
Indie Spirit on a Grand Scale
Speaking to Deadline, Keoghan shared his experience on set: 'It's going incredible. It's such a big family out there, and it's such a big movie, but it has that indie soul to it, where I'm feeling super safe to reach and bring forward the most vulnerable truths and the most... Just really dig deep with the performance as Ringo.'
The cast also features Aimee Lou Wood, Saoirse Ronan, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Anna Sawai, who will portray pivotal women in the Beatles' story: Pattie Boyd, Linda McCartney, Maureen Starkey, and Yoko Ono, respectively.
Learning from the Best
Keoghan praised director Sam Mendes and cinematographer Greig Fraser, noting that he is learning extensively from them. 'Sam is such a legend and family now, and everyone's family out there. It's such a tight, lovely group, and I'm learning lots by watching Sam and by watching Greig on the camera and getting back into my photography as well. And I've got the best DOP in the world beside me to learn from,' he said.
Formed in 1960, The Beatles remain the best-selling musical act of all time, with 18 UK number one singles and 16 UK number one albums. Keoghan, known for roles in Saltburn (2023) and The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), recently starred in The Immortal Man (2026), the latest instalment in the Peaky Blinders franchise.
