Bridgerton star Luke Thompson has landed an exciting new project away from the Netflix series, taking on a very different role in a stage adaptation of the acclaimed German film The Lives of Others.
Thompson Joins Knightley and Dillane in West End Production
The British actor, best known for his role as Benedict Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series, recently took the spotlight opposite Yerin Ha as Sophie Baek in the period drama's fourth season. Now, Thompson is heading to the West End alongside Keira Knightley (Black Doves) and Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones) in an adaptation of the 2006 film, widely considered one of the best of the 21st century.
Unfortunately for fans not based in London, this means a long journey to witness Thompson's highly anticipated next performance. The production is adapted and directed by Robert Icke and follows a writer and actress being secretly observed by a Stasi officer in 1984 East Berlin.
Award-Winning Original Film
The original film, directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, won multiple accolades including the Academy Award for Best International Film and the BAFTA for Best Film Not in the English Language. Producer Sonia Friedman called the original “haunting” and “completely masterful.” She added: “There is no one better than Robert Icke to bring this to life onstage. He has this rare ability to combine huge ideas with real emotional truth, and I know he and the company will find a way to realise it that feels both unexpected and completely thrilling.”
Friedman also confirmed that Max Richter, who recently composed the score for the award-winning film Hamnet, will compose new music for the production. “Max is one of the great composers of our time, and his work has a depth and emotional truth that has the potential to break our hearts,” she said.
Critical Acclaim for the Original
The Lives of Others has been praised by audiences and critics alike. One IMDb user declared it “the best film released in years” and “virtually flawless.” Another called it a “gripping story” with “one of the most powerful endings” they have ever seen, adding: “So powerful, so beautifully crafted. A true gem.”
Tickets for the new production are currently on sale from £25 for a late 2026-27 run, with opening night on 29th October and finishing on 9th January. Bridgerton is available to stream on Netflix.
