Timothée Chalamet's highly anticipated new film, Marty Supreme, has achieved a remarkable box office feat, breaking a significant record days before its official theatrical debut.
Record-Breaking Limited Release
The A24 sports drama, directed by Josh Safdie of Uncut Gems fame, enjoyed a sold-out limited release this past weekend in just six cinemas across New York and Los Angeles. According to industry outlet Deadline, the film is projected to earn a stunning three-day total of $875,000.
This figure results in a per-screen average (PSA) of $145,900, securing the movie the title of the highest per-screen-average of 2025. It comfortably overtakes the previous record holder, Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme, which managed a PSA of $95,000.
A Historic Achievement for A24
The success also marks a new milestone for the independent studio A24. Marty Supreme now holds the distributor's highest-ever PSA, surpassing the previous record set by Safdie's own Uncut Gems, which earned $107,448 per screen.
This incredible performance places the film at number 15 on the all-time list for best per-screen averages, sitting behind legendary blockbusters like La La Land, Frozen, and the original 1994 The Lion King.
Oscar Buzz and a Star-Studded Comeback
The film, which follows Chalamet's character Marty Mauser in his quest to become a table tennis champion, has been met with critical acclaim. It currently boasts a 95 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics are hailing Chalamet's performance as a career-best, with many predicting it will earn the 29-year-old his third Oscar nomination for Best Actor at the 2026 Academy Awards.
Marty Supreme also signals a major Hollywood return for Gwyneth Paltrow, who appears in one of her first film roles since stepping back to focus on her lifestyle brand, Goop.
Chalamet recently revealed the extensive preparation behind his role, telling ABC News he spent six years working with a coach to perfect his ping-pong skills. "They got me to a level where I could make it look good and precise," the actor stated.
Marty Supreme receives its wide theatrical release in the United States on Christmas Day, 25 December 2025. Audiences in the United Kingdom will be able to see it from Boxing Day, 26 December.
