Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio has left fans in a state of disbelief after confessing he has never watched the film that catapulted him to global fame – the 1997 epic romance and disaster movie, Titanic.
A Shocking Revelation on Actors on Actors
The 51-year-old Oscar winner made the surprising admission during a conversation with fellow actor Jennifer Lawrence for Variety's Actors on Actors series. When Lawrence, 35, suggested he revisit the film, DiCaprio simply stated, 'No, I haven't seen it.' He elaborated, explaining, 'I don't really watch my films.'
This revelation pertains to one of the most successful movies in cinematic history. DiCaprio memorably played the penniless artist Jack Dawson in director James Cameron's masterpiece. The film, made on a $200 million budget, went on to earn a staggering $2.264 billion at the global box office and won a remarkable 11 Academy Awards.
Social Media Erupts with Amazed Reactions
The confession quickly sparked a wave of astonishment on social media, particularly on Variety's X account. One user, @BorkorElse, commented with shocked eye emojis, writing, 'Leo's never seen Titanic!' Another, @MrAdetilewa, questioned, 'How can you be the main actor in a popular movie and never seen the movie? This can't be possible.'
The moment was dubbed iconic, with user @TopuzLouis tweeting, 'Leonardo DiCaprio admitting he's never seen Titanic might be the most Actors on Actors moment ever.' Others made light of the situation, with @SLTreeJr joking about the film's age, suggesting DiCaprio wouldn't watch something over 25 years old.
From Chowder Poisoning to Future Projects
The wide-ranging interview also saw Lawrence cheekily reference DiCaprio's well-documented dating history with younger models. She expressed mock sadness that he doesn't have a teenage daughter, noting he 'looked great with one' in his latest film.
Lawrence also grilled him about a bizarre incident from the Titanic set in 1996, where over 50 cast and crew members, including director James Cameron and actor Bill Paxton, were poisoned by PCP-laced lobster chowder. DiCaprio clarified he and co-star Kate Winslet were not present, as they did not film the 1996-set scenes in Canada where the incident occurred.
Looking ahead, the duo confirmed they are reuniting for Martin Scorsese's upcoming horror film, What Happens at Night, after previously working together on Netflix's Don't Look Up. DiCaprio is currently nominated for a Critics Choice Award and a Golden Globe for his role in One Battle After Another, while Lawrence is nominated for a Golden Globe for Die My Love.
