First Trailer for Enid Blyton's The Magic Faraway Tree

The long-awaited first glimpse of the big-screen adaptation of Enid Blyton's cherished children's classic, The Magic Faraway Tree, has finally arrived. Released on Wednesday, the debut trailer introduces a stellar cast led by Nicola Coughlan, Claire Foy, and Andrew Garfield, bringing the magical woodland and its eccentric inhabitants to life.

A Star-Studded Cast Brings Magic to Life

Nicola Coughlan, famed for her role in Bridgerton, undergoes a remarkable transformation to play the beloved woodland fairy, Silky, complete with bright blonde hair. She is joined by Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy, who portray parents Tim and Polly Thompson. The story follows the Thompson family—including children Beth, Joe, and Fran—as they relocate to the remote English countryside.

There, the children discover the enchanted Faraway Tree and its extraordinary residents. The trailer reveals Nonso Anozie (Ted Lasso) as the iconic Moonface, sporting a white beard and crescent moon-shaped hair. Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer) stars as Dame Washalot, with Dustin Demri-Burns as the Saucepan Man. The magical ensemble is rounded out by Mark Heap as Mr. Oom Boom Boom and Oliver Chris as Mr. Watzisname.

Production and Enduring Legacy

The film has been adapted for the screen by BAFTA Award-winner Simon Farnaby (Wonka, Paddington 2) and is directed by Ben Gregor. Principal photography, which took place on location across Southern England and at Shinfield Studios in Reading, wrapped earlier this year. The project is spearheaded by Oscar-winner Sam Mendes's production company, Neal Street Productions, known for hits like Call the Midwife and 1917.

The official synopsis promises a heartwarming adventure: after finding the magical tree, the children are transported to spectacular lands at its top. Through their journeys, the family learns to reconnect and value each other anew.

A Timeless Story for New Generations

Enid Blyton's literary legacy is monumental. Her books remain in active print, translated into over 35 languages, with over 500 million copies sold worldwide, making her the most translated children's author. In the UK alone, more than 3.5 million of her books are sold annually.

The Faraway Tree series is among her most popular works, having sold over 30 million copies to date and continuing to attract over half a million new readers each year. The film is based on the series of novels that began with 1939's The Enchanted Wood.

Danny Perkins, CEO of Elysian Film Group, commented on the project's significance, stating that attracting such high-profile talent is a testament to the enduring power and commercial appeal of Blyton's storytelling. The film is scheduled for release on March 27, 2026.
