High Potential Season 3 Delayed: New Release Window Confirmed
High Potential Season 3 Delayed to 2027

Fans of the hit crime drama High Potential have received a disappointing update regarding the release of Season 3, as the network behind the series has confirmed a significant schedule change. The show, which streams on Disney+ in the UK and airs on ABC in the US, has been moved from its usual fall slot to a midseason premiere, meaning the earliest viewers can expect new episodes is January 2027.

Schedule Shakeup for Season 3

According to a report by Variety, ABC has updated its upcoming slate of shows, and High Potential has been shifted to midseason. This decision, while disappointing for fans eager to see the resolution of Season 2's dramatic cliffhanger, is part of a broader strategy by the network. Ari Goldman, ABC's senior vice president of content strategy and scheduling, explained the rationale behind the move.

“The High Potential move to midseason is one that’s really born out of the success that we’ve proven over the last couple of years with Will Trent, The Rookie and the uninterrupted runs that we’ve enjoyed starting in that January timeframe going through the end of the season,” Goldman said. He added that the network is considering both linear and streaming viewers, who have shown the importance of week-over-week steadiness in rolling out shows.

Potential Benefits for Viewers

While the delay may seem like bad news, Goldman hinted at a potential advantage: an uninterrupted run of episodes. Previous seasons faced breaks during Christmas and the Winter Olympics, but a January start could allow for a continuous broadcast without pauses. However, the episode count for Season 3 has not yet been confirmed. Season 1 had 13 episodes, while Season 2 featured 18.

Goldman noted, “We haven’t gone deep on the episode count for our shows, and we’re not going to be ready to comment on that. But I think we’re still looking at a really full season for High Potential. That’s all I can say.”

New Showrunners Take Over

In addition to the scheduling news, High Potential will see a change in leadership. Todd Harthan, who served as showrunner for the first two seasons, has stepped down following the Season 2 finale to focus on the upcoming series Eragon, also set for Disney+. Replacing him are sisters Lila and Nora Zuckerman, who most recently ran the debut season of the crime drama Poker Face, created by Rian Johnson. Their credits also include work on Suits and Agents of Shield, as well as involvement in the cancelled Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.

High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson as Morgan, a single mother with a high intellect who helps solve crimes, has been a critical and commercial success. The series holds a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has garnered a devoted fanbase. Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger, leaving several mysteries unresolved and a character's fate in question.

As fans await Season 3, they can stream the first two seasons on Disney+.
