John Travolta has unveiled a strikingly different appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, opting for a beret and spectacles while attending a screening with his daughter. The 72-year-old actor, best known for roles in Grease and Pulp Fiction, attended the premiere of Propeller One-Way Night Coach on 15 May, where fans caught sight of his transformed look.
A French-Inspired Transformation
Travolta wore a classic suit paired with a white beret and round spectacles. He also sported a moustache and a disconnected beard that appeared to be dyed, according to onlookers. The ensemble drew comparisons to a stereotypical French artist, but not all feedback was positive.
One critic described the beard as “absolutely hideous,” writing: “That chinstrap is killing my eyes, absolutely hideous.” Another suggested the actor should embrace his age: “The man refuses to accept he’s ageing. Stop dying the beard, bald is sexy. Many men in Hollywood have recently premiered their new faces, no need for the glasses and beret.”
A third commenter remarked: “That beret is not hiding anything. He needs to accept his baldy Mr. Clean style.” A fourth added: “When will dudes figure out that dyed facial hair looks atrocious?” A fifth simply stated: “John needs a better stylist.”
Mixed Reactions and Compliments
Despite the criticism, some fans defended Travolta’s new look. One said he was still “rocking” the hat, while another called him “sexy as hell” after he “let go of the lace fronts.” His daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, received widespread praise. The 26-year-old actress wore a classic black dress with diamond earrings, earning descriptions such as “pure class” and “beautiful.”
Father-Daughter Film Project
Both John and Ella Bleu star in Propeller One-Way Night Coach, an adventure film directed by Travolta. The movie is based on a 1997 children’s novel he wrote, marking his directorial debut. The story follows a young plane enthusiast who takes his mother on a cross-country flight to Hollywood, embarking on a life-changing journey.
Elsewhere at Cannes, Vin Diesel became emotional as Paul Walker’s daughter joined him for the 25th anniversary of The Fast and the Furious. The cast enjoyed a midnight screening of the 2001 film. Diesel praised his goddaughter, Meadow Walker, saying: “I pray that in your life, you can have a brother like Paul.” He struggled to compose himself, adding: “Oh Vin why do you have to cry like this and show how human you are.” Diesel also expressed pride in Meadow, calling her “a source of strength” and stating her father would be proud.
