Kristen Stewart's 'Carbonated' Year: Marriage, Directorial Debut & Twilight Remake Wish
Kristen Stewart debuts film, discusses marriage and Twilight remake

Kristen Stewart and her wife, Dylan Meyer, presented a united front on the red carpet in Los Angeles this week, celebrating the premiere of Stewart's highly anticipated feature directorial debut.

A Whirlwind Year of Milestones

The couple, who tied the knot on April 20 at Casita Del Campo restaurant in Los Feliz after six years together, held hands at the event for The Chronology of Water. Speaking to People magazine, the 35-year-old Oscar nominee described the past twelve months as the 'craziest year' of her life. 'I got married. My wife made her a movie. I starred in it. I made my movie,' Stewart revealed, referencing both her own directorial project and a film by Meyer.

She added, 'We went to Cannes. It's now actually coming out in theaters, which blows my mind. I was so carbonated over the last year. I need to get flat… I need to go fizz out.'

From Co-Star to Collaborator: A Creative Partnership

Stewart and Meyer, 38, first crossed paths in 2013 on the set of the film American Ultra. Meyer, a screenwriter and the daughter of Oscar-nominated writer Nicholas Meyer, is now Stewart's producing partner as well as her spouse. Their professional and personal partnership was on full display at the premiere held at 2220 Arts + Archives.

For the occasion, Stewart made a striking style statement in a black zip-up swimsuit top that bared her back, paired with low-slung trousers and boots styled by Tara Swennen. Her hair, featuring a shaved undercut, was styled into a jagged mullet by Adir Abergel, while makeup artist Jillian Dempsey accentuated her hazel eyes.

Future Projects and a Nostalgic Look Back

Amid the buzz for her current release, Stewart sparked headlines by expressing a keen interest in revisiting the franchise that made her a global star. In an interview with ET on Monday, she stated she would 'love to remake' the first Twilight film. 'Imagine if we had like, a huge budget and a bunch of love and support,' she mused. 'I would love to readapt. Yeah, sure, I'll do the remake. I'm doing it! I'm committed.'

Before any vampire revivals, audiences can see Stewart's current labour of love. The Chronology of Water is a 128-minute adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch's 2011 memoir, produced with the backing of legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott. The film has garnered critical acclaim, boasting a 'certified fresh' 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 59 reviews.

The project is already an awards contender, nominated for two trophies at the upcoming 9th Astra Film Awards. It has previously won prizes at several international festivals, including Savannah and Deauville.

The LA premiere was a star-studded affair, with Stewart joined by her cast members Kim Gordon, Imogen Poots, Thora Birch, and Jim Belushi. Birch, 43, brought playful energy to the carpet, while Belushi, 71, paid tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne with a commemorative t-shirt. Other notable guests included Ashley Benson, Emma Roberts, and Dylan Mulvaney.

Looking ahead, Stewart's schedule remains packed. She is set to star in Meyer's own directorial debut, The Wrong Girls, for Neon, and has confirmed that Amazon MGM's limited series The Challenger, in which she will portray astronaut Sally Ride, has been greenlit. Further projects include roles in Panos Cosmatos' Flesh of the Gods and Quentin Dupieux's Full Phil.
