Hell hath no fury like a Swain scorned, as Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) is about to learn firsthand on Coronation Street. Betsy is all loved up with Dylan, something that her mum Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) isn't overly thrilled about. It's only natural that she's protective.
Betsy has had a typical adolescent experience for a teenager on Coronation Street – that is to say, packed to the rafters with trauma. Her last proper boyfriend, Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), was a tragic victim of knife crime; she was accidentally shot by her own mum during a deadly stand-off with her stepmum Carla Connor's (Alison King) psychotic escaped killer brother Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis). And let's not forget the surprise return from the grave of her mum Becky Swain (Amy Cudden), who launched a diabolically deranged plan to split up her two mums. To cap it all, Betsy was the one who discovered Theo's body on the night of his murder during Swarla's wedding.
Turns out, who needs therapy when you have a slightly rough-around-the-edges but somehow loveable roguish boyfriend like Dylan? The tearaway son of legendary Rovers' barman and factory hand Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) isn't exactly squeaky clean, after serving some time in juvenile detention along with Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) over his role in Mason Radcliffe's death. But he's been a rock for Betsy throughout all her hard times, and even though she's been offered a chance to study in London, the two star-crossed teens are determined to make things work long distance.
Betsy collapses and is rushed to hospital
However, there's a ticking time bomb on the horizon, as a new long-term story has been teased that promises something terrible ahead for Betsy. Actor Sair Khan, who plays Alya Nazir, recently posted pics on Instagram from on set teasing an ambulance rushing to the Cobbles. Now we finally know why. When Betsy becomes seriously ill in upcoming scenes of Coronation Street, Lisa lashes out at Dylan. But is he truly to blame?
The couple are love's young dream as they spend every minute they can together before Betsy moves to London. After a disastrous attempt at cooking breakfast for Dylan, Betsy asks him for some cooking lessons. Dylan shows Betsy how to make a bolognaise and assures her that they'll make their long distance relationship work. Betsy smiles and they hug. Then the next thing we know, an ambulance is pulling away from No.6 with its siren blaring.
At the hospital, Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) explains to Carla how he returned home to find Betsy unconscious on the kitchen floor. At Betsy's bedside a nurse explains to a tearful Lisa that they are taking Betsy for an MRI Scan. What's wrong with Betsy? Dylan arrives to see Betsy… only to come running out of the room and warn Lisa and Carla that she seems to be having some kind of fit. Lisa and Carla watch in horror as the doctor tends to Betsy.
Lisa blames Dylan and reports a crime
In the Rovers, Dylan shows Brody and Lauren (Cait Fitton) all the things he's bought for Betsy to make her hospital stay more comfortable to express how much he cares about her. But when Dylan arrives with the bag of treats he is shocked to be confronted by a raging Lisa, who blames him for Betsy's condition. An upset Betsy begs Lisa not to blame Dylan for what happened.
When Sean suggests to Dylan that they go together to visit Betsy, Dylan shuts the conversation down leaving Sean suspicious. Later in the cafe, Sean is shocked when a furious Lisa turns on Dylan and rages at him for Betsy's collapse… and things only get worse when Lisa calls at the station and tells the desk sergeant she'd like to report a crime. Has Lisa just earned her daughter's boyfriend a ticket behind bars?
