Netflix has confirmed that production on The Woods, a new thriller from bestselling author Harlan Coben, has officially begun. The eight-part series marks the streaming giant's 14th adaptation of Coben's work and features a returning fan favourite actress.
Cast and Crew
Tom Bateman, known for the upcoming rom-com The Love Hypothesis, will star alongside Michelle Keegan, who is best recognised for her roles in Brassic and the previous Coben adaptation Fool Me Once. They lead an ensemble that includes comedian Tom Allen (Titanique), Mandeep Dhillon (After Life), James Buckley (The Inbetweeners), and Pearce Quigley (Small Prophets). The series is produced by Quay Street Productions in Manchester.
Plot Synopsis
The story follows Paul 'Cope' Copeland, a barrister and single father, whose sister Camille vanished from a summer camp in the woods twenty years ago. When new evidence emerges, Cope becomes convinced his sister may still be alive. He reunites with his first love, Lucy Silverfield (played by Keegan), to uncover years of lies and family secrets.
Additional cast members include Rade Sherbedgia (Slow Horses), Shannon Watson (The Jetty), Pamela Nomvete (Andor), Amelia Eve (The Haunting of Bly Manor), Kerry Howard (Witless), Roger Barclay (Industry), Simon Lowe (Kirkmoore), Dean Fagan (Time), Tracy Ann-Oberman (Run Away), Charlotte Beaumont (Broadchurch), and Christopher Harper (Call the Midwife).
Author's Statement
Harlan Coben expressed his excitement: "The Woods is a haunting and very personal story. It has everything you expect from us - twisty, turning, gasp-inducing - but at the core is a story of old love and yearning. Working with a cast led by Tom Bateman, Michelle Keegan, Mandeep Dhillon, Pearce Quigley, James Buckley, Tom Allen - it's an embarrassment of riches."
The series is written by Danny Brocklehurst, who has penned previous Coben adaptations. While a release date has not been confirmed, past British Coben thrillers have premiered in January. The Woods will stream exclusively on Netflix.
