Cinema fans have been given their first proper look at Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic, The Odyssey, with the release of the film's first full-length trailer online.
A Glimpse of an Epic Journey
The newly unveiled footage introduces a rugged, bearded Matt Damon in the central role of the legendary hero Odysseus. In a gravelly voiceover, his character reflects on the long journey ahead, stating, “After years of war … no one could stand between my men … and home … not even me.” The trailer promises a visual spectacle, showcasing Odysseus battling fierce storms and formidable obstacles on his perilous voyage back to Ithaca following the fall of Troy.
Star-Studded Cast Revealed
Alongside Damon, the trailer offers brief but significant glimpses of the supporting cast. Anne Hathaway appears as Odysseus's faithful wife, Penelope, who awaits his return. Tom Holland takes on the role of their son, Telemachus. This marks a major reunion for Nolan with several of his previous collaborators, promising a film of significant scale and ambition.
A Production of Monumental Scale
The online trailer follows an earlier six-minute sequence shown in cinemas on 12 December. Prior to that, a cinema-exclusive trailer debuted in July but was subsequently leaked. The newly released version is said to be considerably different. It arrives after Nolan's revelation about the film's staggering production scale: he reportedly used 2 million feet of film shot on Imax cameras to bring this ancient tale to life.
Audiences won't have to wait too much longer to see the full story unfold. The Odyssey is scheduled for release on 16 July 2026 in Australia, followed by releases in the UK and the US on 17 July 2026. With its combination of a visionary director, a stellar cast, and one of history's greatest adventure stories, Nolan's The Odyssey is poised to be one of the cinematic events of the decade.
