Hollywood star Pierce Brosnan cut a sophisticated figure as he stepped out for the UK gala screening of his latest film, Giant, in London on Wednesday evening. The 71-year-old actor, famed for his portrayal of James Bond, attended the event at Picturehouse Central, where he was joined by the boxing legend the film depicts, Prince Naseem Hamed.
A Dapper Display and a Star-Studded Guest List
Brosnan braved the chilly London weather in style, opting for a classic black suit layered over a turtleneck jumper and finished with a pair of polished patent shoes. He was in high spirits on the red carpet, posing for a series of cheerful photographs with Prince Naseem Hamed, 51, whose incredible journey from Sheffield to world champion is the focus of the new biopic.
The event attracted other notable figures from the boxing world and beyond. Attendees included former professional boxer Johnny Nelson, 53, and actress Olivia Barrowclough, who plays Vicki Quinn in the film. The gala served as a celebratory launch for a project that has been years in the making.
From 007 to Sheffield: A Dramatic Physical Transformation
While Brosnan is globally recognised as the suave secret agent 007, his role in Giant required a complete physical overhaul. In the film, he plays Brendan Ingle, the Irish-born, Sheffield-based boxing trainer who discovered and guided Prince Naseem to fame.
Speaking recently on The One Show to promote the film alongside his co-star Amir El-Masry (who plays the young Naseem), Brosnan detailed the extensive prosthetic process. "There was a transformation in this. I don’t look like Brendan," he said, noting it took a couple of hours in the makeup chair each day to apply a bald cap and prosthetic nose.
He also embraced one of Ingle’s most iconic sartorial choices, joking about the trainer's famous leopard-print tracksuit: "I kept the leopard skin! You never know…." El-Masry confirmed the actor spent hours in the special effects chair as the team worked to create the convincing likeness.
The Story of 'Giant': An Unlikely Partnership Against the Odds
Giant tells the compelling true story of British-Yemeni boxer Prince Naseem Hamed’s rags-to-riches ascent. It charts his beginnings on the tough working-class streets of Sheffield, his discovery by Ingle—a former steel industry worker—and their unlikely partnership that defied the racism of 1980s and 1990s Britain.
Driven by Naz’s unorthodox style, cocky persona, and sheer dominance in the ring, the duo rose to the pinnacle of boxing, achieving unprecedented stardom. The film has been produced by Rocky star Sylvester Stallone and written and directed by Rowan Athale.
AGC Studios Chairman Stuart Ford expressed his long-held passion for the project, stating the studio believed fervently in "'Giant's cinematic potential." The film is scheduled for release in UK and Irish cinemas on January 9, promising a powerful portrayal of one of British sport's most memorable duos.
