Former Strictly Come Dancing champion Stacey Dooley has been inundated with supportive messages after revealing her latest career developments on Instagram. The television presenter and documentary maker announced she is working on three new films for BBC Three and iPlayer, each tackling challenging and often overlooked issues within the United Kingdom.
New Documentaries Announced
The trio of documentaries includes Death in the Barracks, which investigates the circumstances surrounding the death of Royal Artillery Gunner Jaysley Beck at Larkhill Camp in Wiltshire. Another film, Fallen Women, examines a series of cases where British women died after falling from height, questioning whether patterns of domestic abuse may have been missed. The third documentary, Down the K-Hole, follows Stacey as she spends five months in a Stockport rehabilitation unit, exploring whether former ketamine users can overcome addiction and rebuild their lives.
Stacey's Statement on Instagram
Announcing the projects on social media, Stacey wrote: "They are going to be some of the most challenging and important films I’ve worked on here in the UK, I’m sure. The access we have been afforded to meet those affected, to hear their stories, and to try to understand the broader picture feels like an enormous responsibility and one that isn’t lost on me." She added: "I would like to thank everyone who has agreed to contribute. And I hope all three films encourage thoughtful conversations."
The documentary maker, who won Strictly Come Dancing in 2018 alongside her now-partner Kevin Clifton, continued: "Each one of these documentaries explores difficult, often overlooked issues, from the deaths of women where crucial questions remain, to the growing impact of ketamine use, and for some, the devastating reality faced by those living in military barracks."
Fan Reactions
Her followers quickly flooded the post with messages of support. One fan commented: "Can't wait!" Another wrote: "Your work is so powerful and important. Thank you for shining light on so many communities and problems. I am a HUGE fan." A third user said: "So glad you're back! Can't beat your documentaries." Others praised her compassionate approach, with one stating: "I love how you approach and deal with each of your documentaries. You are so compassionate but have a way of getting to the crux of the matter."
Commissioning Editor's Praise
Emma Loach, interim head of commissioning for documentaries at the BBC, said: "Across these documentaries, Stacey draws attention to urgent and deeply troubling issues here in the UK, creating space for voices and experiences that are too often unheard. These are powerful, intimate films that reflect the very best of British storytelling."
The documentaries are set to air on BBC Three and will also be available on iPlayer. Further broadcast dates are yet to be announced.
