Emily Brontë's classic novel Wuthering Heights has seen numerous adaptations, but director Emerald Fennell's latest version promises a wild and fresh take. A constant across all versions is the iconic setting on the "wily, windy moors" of Yorkshire, which serves as the atmospheric backdrop for the tragic love story.
Where Was Wuthering Heights Filmed?
Key scenes for the new adaptation were shot extensively across the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Specific locations include Swaledale, Arkengarthdale, and Low Row, chosen for their rugged and unspoiled beauty.
Swaledale is renowned as one of the wildest valleys in the region, characterized by hay meadows, stone field barns, and the fast-rising River Swale. Early released scenes feature Margot Robbie, portraying Catherine Earnshaw, in a wedding dress walking along a lane here, with glimpses of the historic Old Gang lead smelting mill ruins.
Many surrounding hamlets, such as Gunnerside, retain names from Viking settlers over a millennium ago, adding historical depth. The village of Reeth, on the dale's border, served as a production base camp with its craft shops, pubs, and cafes.
Arkengarthdale, the northernmost dale, previously famous for title shots in All Creatures Great and Small, provided moors like Whaw and Booze as backdrops. Additionally, in March 2025, over 200 crew members filmed at Bridestones Moor in Calderdale, known for its uniquely shaped stones overlooking the Calder Valley.

The cast and crew, including stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, stayed at historic accommodations during filming. They lodged at Holdsworth House in Halifax, a four-star Jacobean manor with Brontë family connections, offering Brontë Country Escape packages.
For two and a half weeks, they also resided at Simonstone Hall in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Owner Jake Dinsdale shared that Robbie and Elordi occupied the largest principal rooms, enjoying activities like afternoon tea, Sunday roasts, and late-night chats by outdoor fire pits. The hall's resident animals and countryside ambiance provided an authentic experience.
