Rolling Stones Cryptic Instagram Post Hints at New Music

The Rolling Stones have ignited fan excitement with a cryptic Instagram post that hints at the release of new music. The legendary rock band shared a 13-second video to their 4.2 million followers on Friday, featuring their iconic tongue and lips logo over a moving background of letters, words, and symbols.

Emoji-Fueled Speculation

The mysterious post, which quickly garnered thousands of likes and comments, included a snippet of an unnamed song playing in the background. The caption consisted of just two emojis, one of which was a CD, leading many to believe the band is teasing a new record. Later that evening, the group shared an Instagram story featuring a snippet of their 1973 track "Angie" from the 2009 remastered version of Goats Head Soup, accompanied by lyrics.

Rumors of a New Album

These posts come amid swirling rumors that the band is preparing to release a new album, which would be their first since the Grammy Award-winning Hackney Diamonds in 2023. Speculation first arose last month when cryptic messages, including posters and QR codes linked to The Cockroaches, appeared around London. The Rolling Stones have reportedly used the pseudonym The Cockroaches for music releases and performances, with teaser videos shared on their Instagram. On April 11, The Cockroaches released a limited-edition vinyl single titled "Rough And Twisted," sold exclusively at independent record stores.

Band History and Lineup

Formed in London in 1962, The Rolling Stones have a storied history of chart-topping albums and number one singles, including "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," "Paint It Black," and "Start Me Up." The current lineup consists of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood. Following the death of longtime drummer Charlie Watts in August 2021 at age 80, musician Steve Jordan has taken over drumming duties. The band hailed Watts as "one of the greatest drummers of his generation" in a touching tribute.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, The Rolling Stones have achieved 14 UK number one albums and eight number one hits over their decades-long career. Their website is also teasing fans with surveillance-style videos of the band in the studio. If these clues lead to a new album announcement, it will be the band's 25th studio album.
