BBC insiders have moved to quash a widespread fan theory that has captivated viewers of the hit reality show The Traitors, confirming that no more hidden connections between the remaining contestants will be revealed this series.
The Theory That Gripped The Audience
Since the launch of the current series, speculation has run wild among the show's dedicated fanbase. The intrigue was initially sparked by a large 'family tree' portrait featuring all 22 contestants, which hangs prominently in the lobby of Ardross Castle, the show's Scottish setting.
This, combined with lingering shots of a 'Who's Who' book—a prop listing prominent people and their relationships—led many viewers to a bold conclusion. A significant number became convinced that every player in the castle was secretly linked to at least one other, with connections yet to be unmasked.
Popular theories circulating online suggested Faithful Reece Ward might be the son of Traitor Amanda Collier, that Jessie Stride and Jack Butler were a couple, and that Faraaz Noor was related to Maz Bana. Another persistent rumour centred on Traitor Rachel Duffy and Faithful Matt Hyndman, with fans speculating they could be siblings given they both hail from Northern Ireland and appeared to avoid each other.
Insiders Set The Record Straight
However, a show source has now definitively debunked these elaborate theories. "There are a lot of people barking up the wrong tree," the insider stated. "It's really interesting to see who the audience thinks might be related to who but, the truth is, they are going to be disappointed if they are expecting more connections down the line. They're all out there now."
This confirmation means that all player relationships have already been disclosed to the audience. The known connections so far are:
- Judy and Roxy Wilson, revealed in the New Year's Day opener to be mother and daughter. Producers were forced to disclose this immediately as Judy was the first player banished.
- Ross Garshong and Netty Osterberg, who shared a mutual friend from about 15 years ago but hadn't seen each other for over a decade. Producers noticed they followed each other on social media after casting them independently.
- Ross Garshong and Ellie Buckley, who were revealed to be a couple after Ross's banishment. Ellie, a psychologist, is now seeking to avenge his exit.
A 'Brutal' Series Reaches Its Climax
The current series, which host Claudia Winkleman has described as "brutal", returns this Wednesday. It paused on Friday with a cliffhanger that saw Matt Hyndman appealing to the Traitors to "seduce" him to the dark side.
The Latin inscription on the now-infamous family tree portrait translates as a warning about trust and hidden enemies, further fuelling the paranoia both in the castle and amongst viewers at home. Yet, it seems the biggest mystery concocted by the audience—a web of undisclosed familial ties—has been firmly dismissed by those behind the scenes.
While the hunt for Traitors continues, the hunt for more secret siblings, parents, or couples is officially over.
