Former Big Brother contestant Caroline Monk has broken her silence on her complicated past with broadcaster Matthew Wright, revealing she is 'glad' their relationship ended while acknowledging his support during her cancer battle.
The End of an Era with Matthew Wright
In an exclusive interview, the unmistakably candid 2025 Big Brother housemate discussed her long, complicated romance with the former host of Channel 5's The Wright Stuff. Caroline confirmed their relationship ended approximately twenty years ago and that she hasn't spoken to Wright since their breakup.
"He looked after me the whole time I had cancer," Caroline explained with noticeable calmness. "He looked after me. But I think when I got better, I turned into my mad, crazy self again - and he couldn't handle me."
The reality star insists she bears no bitterness toward her former partner, though she's firm about her feelings regarding their split. "I haven't got a bad word to say about him apart from... you know... I'm glad it was over. It just wasn't right," she stated. "He's moody, I'm moody - it was just normal."
Life Inside the Big Brother House
Only after addressing her past with Wright did Caroline feel ready to discuss her recent experience on the revived Big Brother series, where 61-year-old Richard ultimately won the crown.
Caroline, who entered the house as one of the oldest contestants, revealed the generation gap significantly impacted her experience. "I was about 35 years older than most of them," she noted. "They didn't know anything before this year. I couldn't talk about music, I couldn't talk about my life - they didn't know who I was talking about. It was fun, different, and hell."
Her fiery dynamic with winner Richard became one of the season's defining storylines, but Caroline insists the reality was more playful than viewers saw. "At the beginning none of the kids wanted to know him, so I tried really hard to be his friend," she recalled. "But he didn't like me. He just didn't. And once he started being sarky, I was sarky back. It became a game."
Addressing the 'Bully' Label and Hidden Moments
Caroline directly addressed being labelled a bully during the series, firmly rejecting the characterization. "I got called a bully, but Big Brother never said one word to me," she stated. "If they'd told me once, I would've died. It was banter. They didn't show him being horrible to me."
Despite her fiery edit, Caroline claims she played a much more nurturing role in the house than was shown. She says she was the one inventing games, keeping spirits up, and comforting housemates during emotional moments away from the main cameras.
"I'd like people to have seen me talking to everyone, actually holding them when they were crying," she revealed. "But it is what it is."
Outside the house, Caroline has emerged with a philosophical perspective, learning to stop caring what people think after years of people-pleasing. She even joked about forgetting the cameras were there, resulting in some less-than-glamorous moments. "Otherwise I'd have looked a lot better," she laughed. "The showers were awful - tiny trickles! My hair went green! Thank God for my hats."
When asked who she wanted to win before Richard claimed the title, Caroline said she would have supported Cameron. "Emily's lovely but Cameron... he was doing it for a beautiful reason," she explained. "Richard's got loads of money already!"
