The beloved Channel 4 series Gogglebox returned with a festive special on New Year's Day, delivering an emotional moment that had one of its stars in tears within minutes of the episode starting.
An Emotional Tribute On Air
As the Christmas special began, Alfie Mulhall surprised his husband, Andrew Nicolls, by recreating an iconic scene from the classic film Love Actually. Holding up a series of handwritten cards, Alfie presented sweet messages to Andrew, including one that read, "And people think you're my father," and another saying, "Happy Christmas, I Love You."
The gesture left Andrew visibly stunned and emotional. "What are you doing?" he asked as Alfie instructed him to sit down. Upon reading the heartfelt messages, Andrew began to cry, wiping away tears while exclaiming, "Oh, my god, I really love Love Actually." Alfie, who is 30 years younger than Andrew, simply replied, "Merry Christmas," before the pair shared a laugh.
A Love Story That Resonates With Viewers
Hailing from the Cotswolds, Andrew and Alfie are one of the newer couples to join the Gogglebox cast. Despite their recent introduction, they have quickly become fan favourites, praised for their sharp observations and affectionate, cheeky banter.
Away from the show, the couple frequently shares glimpses of their life on Instagram, from holiday snaps and family announcements to personal milestones. On Sunday, December 21, Andrew posted a touching tribute to finding love later in life. The post featured a montage of photos, including one of the couple beaming in front of a city skyline and another of a loving kiss on the cheek at the beach.
Andrew's caption read: "I was 60 when I thought my love story was over…Then THIS happened." The post was met with an outpouring of support from followers, with comments celebrating their representation of an age-gap relationship and calling them a "beautiful couple."

The couple, who have a three-decade age difference, officially tied the knot in May 2024. They exchanged vows during a beautiful destination wedding in Italy, surrounded by close friends and family.
