Reality television star Heather Dubrow has issued a blunt response to persistent online rumours questioning the sexuality of her husband, celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Dubrow. The Real Housewives of Orange County personality, 56, labelled the speculation as 'stupid' during a candid appearance on an iHeartRadio podcast.
'Why Would We Live a Lie?'
Addressing the gossip directly on the Between Us podcast, Heather Dubrow expressed her frustration and confusion. 'It's just so stupid... Why would we hide that? Why would we live a lie like that?' she stated. She emphasised the hypocrisy such a deception would represent, particularly given their roles as parents. 'It would be the most hypocritical, and what would we be showing our kids?'
Dr. Terry Dubrow, 67, famed for the TV series Botched, joined in with a characteristically humorous yet pointed rebuttal. 'First of all, if I'm gay in this long-term relationship, please feel bad for me because I'm not living my true life. I'm having a life of dissatisfaction,' he joked. He added that if he were gay, he would be 'really happy about it' and quipped about the financial benefits of a hypothetical marriage to a successful man.
A Family of LGBTQ+ Allies and Members
The couple's dismissal of the rumours is underscored by their well-documented status as staunch LGBTQ+ supporters. This advocacy is deeply personal, as three of their four children are members of the community. Heather and Terry, who married in June 1999, share twins Max and Nick, 22, Kat, 19, and Ace, 15.
Their daughter Max has publicly identified as bisexual, while Kat has come out as lesbian. In 2023, their child Ace came out as transgender, a moment the family navigated with deliberate care and support. Terry previously outlined their approach: 'Don't judge, listen. Don't talk,' highlighting the importance of creating a 'warm home environment that's accepting and loving and supportive.'
He explained the family's motivation extends beyond their own home, hoping their public stance helps others. 'We hope that the message that we put out with our family helps those who are struggling in families that aren't so supportive,' he told E! News.
Building an Inclusive Home
The Dubrow children have praised their parents, particularly Heather, for fostering an open and educational environment. Max told People in 2022 that her mother 'tries very hard' to understand and 'grows with us.' Kat echoed this, noting her mother's thoughtful engagement: 'She's asked me trillions of questions that really show she cares... It's really easy to talk to her.'
The couple recently celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary, sharing a playful social media post of them dancing in matching pyjamas. Their long-standing partnership was also tested in 2023 when Heather's quick thinking proved vital after Terry suffered a transient ischemic attack (TIA), or mini-stroke, at dinner.
Heather's insistence he seek immediate medical care is credited with saving his life, a moment she later marked with a heartfelt tribute to her 'healthy and strong' husband. This episode of care and their united front against baseless rumours further cements the narrative of a couple focused on family, authenticity, and mutual support.
